Maggy Ann ~
In case you have not recieved it yet...here it is. My husband bought for me a little book of poems as I had mentioned it to him once before...It is amazing when you think about it that this poem, one woman's words put to paper was the beginning of a movement and an outlet for women to NOT make excuses for their seemingly odd behavior. I love this and am very fond of the color purple ! LOL! Yvonne

Oh - I typed it exactly as it was written in my book even though I was tempted to edit it a little by adding periods where there are none, etc...it just seemed "odd" but I guess that is the point!

Warning

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't
  suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for
  butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press
  alarm bells
And run my stick along public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's
  gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and
  things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the
  papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked
  and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear
  purple.

                                    ~ Jenny Joseph

Several years ago there was a poem about a woman deciding that when she got
old she'd wear a purple dress and a red hat--anyway it was something like
that. I'm wondering if anyone still has that poem and if they'd send it to me
if they do.

Two of our TOPS members have joined the Red Hat Society and I wanted to
present the poem to them.

Wishing all a very good evening,
MaggyAnn
